Veterans' Priority of Service Statement
The order of IJL priority service is:
  1. Special disabled Non-JVA veterans
  2. Non-JVA Veterans of the Viet Nam era
  3. Disabled Non-JVA Veterans other than special disabled Non-JVA Veterans
  4. All other Non-JVA Veterans and all Non-JVA Spouses
  5. JVA Veterans and JVA Spouses
  6. All other individuals
Under various federal laws, the IDES Employment Service must give priority service to several categories of eligible veterans and eligible spouses (e.g., spouses of specific categories of individuals who suffered certain consequences from service-connected disabilities or active duty service). This includes giving eligible veterans and eligible spouses priority service regarding referrals to job openings listed on IJL. "Priority service" means the right to take precedence over non-eligible individuals in obtaining services. For purposes of IJL, "taking precedence" means an eligible veteran or eligible spouse who is qualified for a job referral is referred to the employer before or instead of other qualified individuals. The IDES Employment Service must first give priority service to certain narrowly defined categories of eligible veterans and eligible spouses under particular federal laws. Next, priority service must be given to more broadly defined categories of eligible veterans and eligible spouses under the federal Jobs for Veterans Act ("JVA"). Finally, service is given to all other individuals.

The following table shows the order of IJL priority service. For purposes of this table, eligible veterans and eligible spouses covered by narrowly defined categories under particular federal laws are designated "Non-JVA Veterans" and "Non-JVA Spouses," and eligible veterans and eligible spouses covered by the more broadly defined categories under the JVA are designated "JVA Veterans" and "JVA Spouses."
