Brookfield Properties has an immediate need for a Senior Corporate Accountant at our corporate office in Chicago, Illinois.

Our retail group operates destination, standalone retail real estate globally, including over 150 malls in the United States. Our regional shopping centers create a sense of place in the heart of the communities in which we do business: offering retail, lifestyle, dining and entertainment options.
The Sr. Corporate Accountant will work closely with the Sr Manager on compensation analysis for Brookfield Properties and its mall properties. They will also be responsible for month-end close activities and heavily involved in budgeting and forecasting.
+ Generate monthly payroll accruals and review for accuracy
+ Research and prepare journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation
+ Assist in corporate budget / forecast process
+ Generate and record Joint Venture (JV) payroll billings
+ Creating detail and summary Ad-hoc schedules in excel (formulas & tables)
+ Assist in the review and analysis of financial information / reports for accuracy and completeness
+ Headcount reporting
+ Corporate/ Property Allocations
+ Work with internal departments to help them understand their financial statements
+ Maintain timely communication with the team, keeping others apprised of all material financial and reporting issues
+ Prepare ad hoc analysis, as required
+ Must be flexible team player with ability to participate in other projects / tasks as assigned
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
+ 3 – 5 years Corporate Accounting and / or real estate accounting experience
+ Experience in compensation analysis preferred
+ Experience performing a monthly close process
+ Experience independently managing projects through completion
+ Strong knowledge of GAAP
+ Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, management and external firms
+ Working knowledge of accounting processes and internal controls
+ Professional and proactive
+ Strong organizational skills, deadline focused and ability to meet deadlines
+ Strong Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook skills required
+ Past experience with accounting software preferred, including JD Edwards and HFM
