The primary role of the Principal Scientist Technical Support is application of technical knowledge in a post-market product support environment through complex experimental design, data mining/analysis, adherence to Quality, Regulatory and Safety procedures/policies, project management skills and communication to team/management. This position will lead and consult on multiple complex projects including expanded investigations, design changes, resolving on-market product problems and resolving technical issues to ensure product availability and customer satisfaction. Continuously monitor/measure/analyze performance throughout the product lifecycle, make recommendations based upon conclusions and execute action plans.

Main Responsibilities:

Technical Knowledge:

+ Builds and maintains a high level of scientific knowledge and capabilities

+ Uses product design information to determine root causes in post-market investigations and constructing feasible corrective action plans/design changes

+ Independently designs complex experiments, analyzes data, forms conclusions and accurately documents work for investigations and product improvement

+ Applies molecular assays and other analytical/biotechnological expertise to assess/measure performance attributes

+ Recommends options for future experiments.

+ Presents scientific observations to others.

+ Trains lower-level scientists.

+ Expertise and Problem Solving: Identifies technical alternatives.

+ Utilizes multiple analytical instruments.

+ Anticipates, recognizes and resolves technical problems.

+ Lead and manage product improvement team(s)

+ Support and lead the technical aspect of design activities and product improvement as required. Understand the design transfer process and be knowledgeable on all transfer products.

+ Possess Alinity experience, including design and execution of all assays and instrument operations and troubleshooting.

+ Represents Abbott at external contacts and authorities (FDA / WHO)

+ Establishes and reviews complex plans for multiple projects or activities. Plans resource allocation and distribution. Identifies contingency plans.

+ Implements one or more large scale, strategic projects. Acts as a catalyst to remove organizational barriers. Reduce cycle times and direct process improvements. Works on improvement and development of new planning processes.

+ Examines numerous potential solutions and evaluates each before accepting any. Targets important areas for innovation and develops solutions that address meaningful work issues.

+ Translates external and internal customer requirements and divisional goals into the day-to-day activities necessary to accomplish them.

+ Integrates market/technical information and proposes projects to respond to market and competitive trends.


+ Maintain training to ensure compliance to job role

+ Adhering to governing operating procedures regarding all assigned projects, documentation and record keeping

+ Support Risk Management Files

+ Demonstrate an understanding of the application of the Quality Policy through daily activities. Bring to the attention of the Technical, Quality and Operations Managers in areas of risk in the production or Quality Systems operations which might have an adverse effect on product safety or quality

+ Ensure that the plant meets the quality requirements of its customers, internal quality systems, internal & external auditors and other external agencies.

+ Ensure applicable GMP and GLP requirements are maintained

Planning/Project Management:

+ Independently plans, organizes and executes complex as part of expanded investigations or corrective actions

+ Coordinates with groups outside immediate work area to complete deliverables, holds those individuals accountable for task completion

+ Participates in project planning, updates and process improvements.

+ Identify and communicate any project related technical issues to line manager and Senior Management Team and develop contingencies as applicable.

Patient Focus:

+ Tracking and evaluating testing results to monitor data trends

+ Completing product monitoring evaluations

+ Support closure of customer complaints by providing review, analyses and associated documentation


+ Provide status updates to peers and managers within the team and between functional areas

+ Interact with other manufacturing sites and customers to resolve technical issues

Business Focus/Alignment:

+ Resolve technical issues that threaten safety stock and/or customer satisfaction

+ Develop solutions to improve efficiency and cost for associated products and processes

+ Effectively balances compliance risk and business risk to create and approve risk management files as required.

Requirements :

+ Ph.D. degree in Life Science and a minimum of 8 years of Technical support, research or industrial experience.

+ Depth of knowledge in own scientific discipline and breadth of knowledge in multiple scientific discipline

+ Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally

+ Strong scientific network

+ Excellent leadership skills
