Packaging plays an essential role in safely delivering our products to consumers.
In order to address environmental challenges associated with packaging waste, we have various approaches including increasing the uses of recycled materials and developing more sustainable packaging designs.
Client is seeking a Contract scientist to conduct food safety hazard assessment of recycled plastic materials and review regulatory compliance for food-contact use to support our sustainable beverage packaging agenda.
The position will focus on risk assessment of post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) produced by various recycling technologies.
Job Description and Responsibilities
Reviews documents submitted by the suppliers for completeness, accuracy and relevance
Creates database of each decontamination process per each recycling technology
Assists in development of Global Food Safety guidance and Risk Assessment for recycling PET
Prepare presentation summaries to LT as applicable
Analyses decontamination rate per each process from mathematical modeling data
Manages supplier dialogues through Quickbase
Partners with Global Procurement for current supplier review
Collaborates with internal/external auditor to verify recycling process condition observed in audit report to be consistent with parameters in the Quickbase
Uploads relevant documents into Quickbase and SharePoint
Connects with Packaging R&D to collect Qualification Test result per beverage platform
Creates database of recycling suppliers from review to final approval rate
Reviews Regulatory compliance requirement per country (e.g. US, Canada, Latin America)
Collects technical literature on mechanical/chemical recycling technologies; and may include on site verification as needed
Collects research data regarding chemical contaminants during recycling process
B.S in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Packaging/Materials Science
knowledge of PET packaging materials, recycling process
Knowledge of regulatory compliance of packaging materials
