Duties and Responsibilities

The Burn and Shock Trauma Research Institute (BSTRI) at Loyola University Chicago (LUC), Stritch School of Medicine is seeking to recruit two tenure track faculty and invites applications from both basic and clinician scientists. Both junior and senior level faculty are invited to apply.

The Stritch School of Medicine is rapidly expanding its research program across all the departments. The BSTRI faculty is highly collaborative and maintains a strong federally-funded research program in the area of burns, trauma, sepsis, alcohol and wound healing. The institute has a long history of training the next generation of basic and physician scientists and is home to two T32 training grants funded by NIAAA and NIGMS. The faculty candidates are expected to maintain an independent, externally-funded research program in the area of tissue injury, immune and inflammation in response to burn/trauma/sepsis, and contribute to graduate and medical education.

The BSTRI (https://ssom.luc.edu/bsti/), housed within the department of Surgery, is located in the newly constructed state-of-the-art Center for Translational Research and Education (CTRE) at LUC’s Health Sciences Campus.

Candidates must have a Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent and postdoctoral experience with a strong publication record. Established investigators should have a strong history of research productivity and extramural support. The clinically active investigators with 50% commitments to research are encouraged to apply. This is a 12-month faculty appointment and the rank/tenure will be commensurate with qualifications.

Interested candidates should submit applications including a curriculum vitae, a statement of accomplishments and future priorities in research, and a brief statement on their commitment to teaching and student mentorship. The candidate should also provide the names and contact information of three individuals who have agreed to provide letters of reference. Review of applications will commence immediately and applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.

Loyola University Chicago is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer with a strong commitment to hiring for our mission and diversifying our faculty.
