A successful candidate for the Environmental Waste Specialist III role would be expected to use a broad application of principles, theories and concepts in the discipline and provide resolution to a diverse range of complex problems, using judgment within defined policies and procedures\.

The primary responsibilities will be to plan and assist, under limited direction, with radioactive, hazardous, chemical, and abatement materials management, characterization, packaging, and transportation functions\. This role is involved in the development and implementation of, and compliance with, related policies, procedures and systems\. In addition, creates and maintains appropriate, compliant documentation\.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

+ Knowledge and understanding of the requirements for characterization, processing, testing, handling, packaging, certification, shipping and disposal of regulated waste\.
+ Knowledge of waste operations including related technical principles and procedures\.
+ Skill in the use of a personal computer is required\.
+ Ability to create and maintain effective work relations with others\.
+ Knowledge of DOE Orders, EPA and NRC regulations is important\.
+ Associate\`s Degree and 10\+ years of related work experience or Bachelor\`s Degree and 5\+ years or equivalent preferred\.

The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level \(PT3 or PT4\) dependent upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills brought to the position, as well as the amount of relevant experience\. The requirements of the various levels are as follows:

+ At a PT3 Level: Bachelor’s and 4\+ years or equivalent, some occupations may require graduate degree and 2\+ years or equivalent\.
+ At a PT4 Level: Bachelor’s and 6\+ years or equivalent, some occupations may require graduate degree and 4\+ years or equivalent\.
