Senior Applications Engineer

Bull Moose Tube is a diversified industrial manufacturing company. Bull Moose Tube is currently one of the largest and most profitable manufacturers of mechanical tubing, fire suppression sprinkler pipe and hollow section structural steel tubing in North America. Bull Moose currently operates from seven North American manufacturing sites with headquarters in St. Louis, MO.

Bull Moose seeks to build on its strong foundation in Hollow Structural Section, Mechanical, and Fire Sprinkler tubing. This role’s primary focus will be within the fire sprinkler business while also supporting initiatives in the Structural and Mechanical tubing areas as necessary.

The Senior Applications Engineer has project management responsibilities including: new supplier relationship management, project team management, and project deliverables. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded professional with experience in construction engineering with strong exposure to fire protection, life safety and or building codes.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop deep understanding of the Fire Sprinkler industry: regulatory requirements, specific applications, and system installation processes to create Total Cost of Ownership models
Drive Ideation Process to identify new products for development via customer analysis and interviews, discussion with internal stakeholders, industry research, etc.
Manage new product ideas through development and launch using formal project management tools
Evaluate new and adjacent technologies for incorporation into the BMT product family
Work with industry leaders to specify Bull Moose products into system/product designs
Work with customers to specify Bull Moose products into building projects
Assist sales staff in recommending appropriate products based on application knowledge
Establish best in class standards for technical service and responsiveness
Utilize 8D or similar failure analysis / problem solving processes to quickly resolve and close out issues and Corrective Action Requests
Competency and Background Requirements:

5+ years experience in the construction industry with significant exposure to fire protection systems and regulations
BS in Engineering, Science, or Quality Management required, MS desired
Awareness of NFPA 14 and 13, specifically hydraulic calculation software and its application
Experience and demonstrable results identifying and launching new products, improving margin and/or share within strategic customer base
Solid background in tools such as FMEA, Six Sigma, 8D, 5 Ys’ or similar problem solving techniques
Project Management experience is required. PMP experience is a definite plus
AutoCAD and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software experience is strongly desired.
