Title:EPC Project Engineer – Renewable Energy Group
Location:Glen Ellyn, IL
To provide engineering oversight, consultation and technical resources as it relates to the design engineering management of renewable energy electrical utility EPC construction projects. In partnership with select engineering firms, facilitate the detailed engineering design of the project, procure all the equipment and materials necessary and lead Engineering efforts. Projects typically include wind farms with transmission, substation, collector, utility scale battery storage, utility owned transmission interconnect substations, and solar substation and collector systems.
+ To provide engineering oversight, coordination, management support and technical expertise for all aspects of renewable energy EPC projects starting from the bidding stage up through construction.
+ Provide direction and oversight of design engineering subcontractors on a single project basis.
+ Provide guidance towards cost effective designs that meet contract scope, perform detailed review of drawings, facilitate resolution of engineering problems, lead project weekly engineering progress meetings, liaison to the owner’s engineering and project management staff, procure long lead major equipment, manage the engineering schedule, and manage engineering scope change
+ Work with the MJE Team to continuously expand our in-house design engineering capability
+ Produce preliminary designs in-house for proposals.
+ Areas of design include civil grading, foundations, structural steel, electrical physical plans, electrical schematics, relay protection schemes, wiring diagrams, SCADA and communications systems hardware and software, land use and survey, geotech, collector system routing, detailed system studies such as load flow, short circuit, reactive power flow, thermal ampacity, transient overvoltage, harmonics,
+ Review and analyze technical information (drawings, schematics, take offs, estimates, proposals) and regulatory information provided by the Owner, Client or Engineer Firm and interface with the Estimating Department and operations to perform and interpret that information resulting in associated constructability reviews and project pricing.
+ Work closely with design engineers and customers to assure the design engineers are coordinated to work efficiently and meet contracting requirements, budgets, forecasts and schedules. Ensures that engineering related barriers to construction progress are removed in a timely manner.
+ Work closely with the Owner/Client on project planning and scheduling.
+ Assist construction Project Managers with project scope development and project authorization through completion.
+ Ensure that MJE Senior Management is kept current on the progress of projects, business opportunities and industry trends.
+ Systematically and regularly appraise and evaluate project progress against established goals, timelines and objectives. Correct deficiencies in these areas.
+ Consult with Utilities, Clients and Owners regarding design requirements, job specifications, bid requirements and offer technical expertise regarding design solutions
+ Understand critical design requirements of on-going projects and continuously monitor quality to ensure compliance within established specifications and tolerances.
+ Assist with the development and tracking of key project performance metrics.
+ A minimum of 5 years of substation, wind collector, or utility power engineering
+ Extensive construction/project management skills with a track record of achievement of complex projects.
+ Proficient in the use of excel, word
+ Proficient in the use of AutoCAD or Micro station drafting software is preferred.
+ Familiarity with Primavera PV6 scheduling software
+ Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and schematics
+ Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiations skills.
+ Strong managerial/leadership skills.
+ Ability to provide oversight to numerous projects throughout a large geographic area
+ Professional Engineer Certification preferred
+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferably with a Power Option. Equivalent experience can be substituted
+ 3-5 years of electrical engineering experience
