Coordinates the deliver of care to patients assuring that the nursing units/departments have information, staff, and supplies required to deliver care to all age groups. Acts as the designated individual representing administration during their absence. Responsible for coordinating the admission and discharge patient flow activities within the facility. Facilitates optional utilization of medical, surgical, telemetry, and intensive care beds through collaborative efforts with nursing and all ancillary departments. Works closely with physicians and others to maintain a proactive bed management process and facilitate care delivery.
Principal Duties, Responsibilities and/or Essential Functions:
Maintains appropriate staffing levels according to acuity, budget and staffing ratios as defined in departmental staffing plans. Assesses unit staffing needs and makes appropriate modification to support unit activity.
Maintains a safe patient care and work environment through enforcement and support for policies and procedures related to OSHA, JCAH and expert organizational standards.
Communicates effectively with defined customers including physicians, staff, patients, families and other visitors to promote exceptional patient care and monitor care delivery during assigned shift.
Provide conflict resolution with patients, families and staff while providing appropriate information to administration.
Coordinates admission and discharges of all patients through frequent rounding and continuous communication with patient processing, Emergency Department and nursing units regarding staffing and bed status.
Optimize throughput by minimizing amount of time between decision to admit and actual admission to the appropriate unit.
Demonstrates leadership by contributing to leadership meetings including PCS and Nursing Director meetings.
Supports quality improvements through participation in CQI workgroups and teams.
Supports delivery of patient care by acquiring needed equipment and providing resources as needed.
Assists in coordination of all patient transfers and supervises and directs emergency code blue and rapid response team activity
Functions as a resource by supporting staff with clinical decisions and critical thinking.
