WSP is currently initiating a search for an Illinois Traffic Engineering Manager for our Chicago, Illinois office to develop a team of traffic and transportation professionals. This is an exciting opportunity to bring your expertise in Traffic and team management together.

Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Manage projects and/or tasks on transportation and infrastructure projects in a collaborative setting with multiple disciplines

+ Actively engage in marketing/business development activities to grow traffic engineering and ITS services in Illinois.

+ Lead traffic studies, signal design, lighting, and ITS design

+ Be engaged in Traffic and ITS related pursuits and business development efforts by leading marketing discussions, setting pursuit strategies, client outreach plans, assigning staff as key participants to our pursuits.

+ Interpret, organize, execute and coordinate engineering assignments involving unique or controversial problems which significantly affect major projects

+ Manage staff on a day-to-day basis, ensuring staff are working on the appropriate projects and providing high quality work for key clients

+ Mentor staff in terms of career development and personal goals

+ Perform regular reviews of staff goals and objectives

+ Serve as primary contact for all traffic and ITS activities conducted in the Greater Chicago area, and will coordinate closely with the Central Region Traffic TEC Manager

+ Coordinate with other disciplines, offices and stakeholders

+ Represent respective projects at meetings and conferences

+ Make recommendations on project staffing

  1. Job Requirements

>

Minimum Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Planning or related field

+ 15 years of relevant experience in traffic engineering or related field

+ Illinois PE registration or ability to receive within 6 months

+ A core understanding of the role of traffic engineering principles and practices in the broader development and delivery of major urban transportation and infrastructure projects

+ Strong technical writing, analytical and communications skills and ability to work within a team environment

+ Excellent research and problem-solving skills

+ Experience managing engineering teams as a project manager or supervisor

Preferred Qualifications

+ Experience working with public agencies in Chicago

+ PTOE Certification

+ Experience in mentoring and managing junior staff
