Batavia, IL 60510
FERMI Research Alliance, LLC has an opening for a Superconducting Magnets Scientist in Batavia, Illinois. Position Summary: Perform simulations and computation of the high temperature spots in the magnet during quench. Conduct quench simulations of magnets protected by specific devices, for computation of hot spot temperature in the magnet coils and calculating the magnet voltage versus time. Analyze SC magnet coils data for the current Fermilab projects, and assessment of discrepancy severity. Analyze failure scenarios, which can damage superconducting magnets during the quench, e.g. possible electrical short of magnet coil-to-ground. Measure and inspect coils for the current Fermilab’s projects that failed Quality Control (QC) tests in order to understand issues and develop solutions. Publish papers on superconducting technology in peer-reviewed journals.
