Job Description

Position Summary

The Network Administrator II is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and operating all networking and telephony equipment owned and operated by Heartland Bancorp.

Essential Job Functions

  • •Monitor switches, routers, and firewalls
  • •Design and architect new network segments and systems
  • •Configure and deploy new switches, routers, and firewalls
  • •Manage existing switches, routers, and firewalls, including installation of patches and upgrades
  • •Interact with third party WAN providers on outages and other problems
  • •Review and respond to network security incidents
  • •Research and troubleshoot network performance issues
  • •Collaborate with the Systems Administrators, Network Administrators, and Helpdesk teams on reported performance problems
  • •Plan, configure, and deploy telephony products (specifically Cisco VoiP)

  • •Understand how changes on one system can affect other interconnected systems
  • •Create meaningful network documentation
  • •Participate in high level project planning
  • •Plan and architect new network segments and topologies
  • •Advise management on strategic technology decisions
  • •Plan and design new network deployments and equipment configuration
  • Mentor  less experienced team  members

The Network Administrator should have detailed knowledge of the follow technologies:

  • Routing concepts and technologies (BGP, OSPF, Static, Redistribution, etc.)
  • •Switching concepts and technologies (VLANs, Bridging, Spanning Tree, Trunking, Leaf-Spine, etc..)

  • •Cisco lOS

  • •Network Function Virtualization
  • •Web filtering technologies
  • •Firewalls
  • •Cisco Unified Communications and associated technologies
  • •Network monitoring tools
  • •Modern datacenter design

Computer Skills Requirements

  • Basic computer skills with the interest and ability to learn new applications.
  • A high level of computer competency is expected including a working knowledge of routing concepts and technologies, firewalls and network monitoring technologies.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Networking

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Computer Systems and Network Management
  • Industry standard security certification. (Sec+ or CISSP, CCNP or above)

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly:  sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, feeling/touching, vision – close, peripheral, depth, ability to adjust focus

  • Frequently:  stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, reaching with arms and hands, climbing and/or balancing

  • Occasionally:  lifting objects up to 30 pounds
