Job Description

POSITION: Transportation Engineer I
Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a transportation engineer starting in Winter 2019 or May 2020, in our Chicago, Crystal Lake, or Mokena Illinois office. This position will primarily consist of design engineering efforts on a variety of transportation projects for State, County, and Local Agencies. A knowledge of designing roadway and underground improvements with Geopak is preferred. This team orientated position will include working with Baxter & Woodman’s diverse disciplines and offices.

  • Design Roadway, Underground Utility, and Infrastructure improvements using Geopak
  • Conduct drainage, traffic, and various engineering studies
  • Complete general civil engineering services for municipal, county and state clients
  • Complete engineering plans and specifications using IDOT Standards
  • Process Federal Aid Phase I and II projects for a variety of clients
  • Assist with construction engineering services for municipal, county and state clients
  • Assist with projects engineers and managers with a wide variety of tasks required during project delivery
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with anticipated F.E. (Fundamentals of Engineering) certification
  • Relevant internship/co-op experience with municipal or highway agency transportation projects
  • Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman’s service area (own transportation)
  • Ability to independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities
  • Strong written, verbal, computer and organizational skills
  • E.I.T (Engineer in Training) with anticipated Professional Engineer
  • Work within a team-first culture that encourages individual development and accomplishment of goals
