LanzaTech has an additional 3 commercial projects in the pipeline, in India, South Africa and California. LanzaTech has already produced synthetic jet fuel from recycled carbon emissions and has a partnership with Virgin Atlantic.

We have an exciting opportunity for a junior scientist to join the Process Integration team at LanzaTech. This R&D team of scientists and engineers is responsible for initial concept development, lab testing and scale-up of ideas to improve gas fermentation and its integration within overall process schemes. Process Integration is responsible for the pilot-scale bioreactors and engineering labs at LanzaTech headquarters in Skokie, and its members support commercial operations as fermentation experts. As a member of this team, the Research Associate will operate gas fermentation reactors and supporting analytical systems, participate in experimental planning, and join cross-functional team-based projects with engineering, synthetic and computational biology.
+ Make up fermentation media and dosing chemicals.
+ Operate lab-scale (CSTR) gas fermentation reactors and execute experiments in them.
+ Perform routine sample analysis using microscopy, spectroscopy, and flow cytometry
+ Assist operations of pilot scale fermentation reactors and downstream separation systems.
+ Maintain lab and pilot scale equipment.
+ Create and update standard operating procedures.
Research and Development
+ Plan experiments for lab and pilot scale fermentation.
+ Evaluate and maintain fermentation data in databases.
+ Analyse datasets and infer underlying chemical and biological processes.
+ Effectively present lab findings to the wider science and engineering teams.
+ Write up novel concepts as invention disclosures and participate in the patent application process.
+ Run various physical and hydrodynamic experiments relating to bioreactor design.
+ Bachelor?s degree in microbiology, or a degree in engineering with a biotech/bioprocess focus Required
+ Master?s degree in microbiology, fermentation science, bioprocess engineering or a related field.
+ Experience with microbiology, aseptic and anaerobic techniques.
+ Knowledge or experience of gas fermentation technology by anaerobic acetogens.
+ Practical mechanical experience with lab or pilot scale process equipment.
+ Knowledge of analytics & instrumentation of biological processes.
