The Argonne Tandem Linear Accelerator Facility \(ATLAS\) at Argonne National Laboratory \(ANL\) is seeking a senior electrical engineer with experience in radio frequency \(RF\) systems\.ATLAS is the world’s first heavy ion superconducting linear accelerator, and for over three decades has operated as a user facility to explore the frontiers of nuclear physics and applications\.ANL is a multidisciplinary lab funded primarily through the US Department of Energy\.
The candidate will work with a collaborative team of physicists, engineers, and technicians to develop devices to manipulate and deliver heavy ion beams for experiments\.This position requires a strong understanding of the foundations of electrodynamics and radio frequency engineering\.In general, the candidate will be involved with the design, fabrication, and operation of RF systems \(6 \- 110 MHz, up to 100 kW\) needed to drive and control resonant cavities for the acceleration, bunching, and chopping of high energy, heavy ion beams\.The candidate must be able to work independently and have experience with the full project development lifecycle from design to product fabrication and implementation\.
As you will be working with a small project team and regularly interacting with operations staff, excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential\.You must be a flexible, results\-oriented problem\-solver who requires minimal supervision\.Projects can vary greatly from one to the next and the successful applicant must thrive in taking on new challenges\.
Depending on the level of experience, this position may be responsible for supervising the work of other engineers or technicians\.
