Environmental Monitoring & Technologies, Inc. (EMT) is an environmental laboratory, providing our clients with quality testing services for 35 years. We specialize in analysis of water, wastewater, and soils for organic and inorganic compounds, as well as conducting field sampling services for a variety of regulatory programs. In an effort to prevent hazardous substances harmful to the environment from entering fresh water sources, EMT samples flows of water, wastewater, and storm water, for such harmful substances as lead, mercury, cyanide, and dozens of other organic and inorganic compounds.
EMT is offering a career opportunity to a Laboratory Analyst for the operation of a Gas Chromatograph with a Mass Spectrograph (GC/MS) for the analysis of volatile organic compounds. The qualifying candidate will work with a team of analysts in a production lab to provide daily results of volatile organic data.
OBJECTIVES OF POSITION:
The Laboratory Analysts main objective is to manage their workload to produce quality data according to EMT’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The chemist also performs QA data review and supports team members to meet the expectations of EMT’s clients. The analyst also trains new chemists according to EMT SOPs in a culture of safe action, honest, and ethical behavior in all laboratory activities. The Laboratory Analyst must be motivated to see projects through to completion, practice proactive problem solving and communication, and perform their duties safely and ethically.
SPECIFIC DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
+ Manage sample workload and labor to meet reporting deadlines.
+ Build sequence and batch data to maximize instrument run efficiency.
+ Calibrate instrumentation as necessary.
+ Perform periodic maintenance on instruments.
+ Make critical decisions about the quality of samples prior to analysis to protect instruments and meet client objectives.
+ Upload and review results in EMT’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Promium by Element.
+ Quantify and qualify results based on analytical method and SOP.
+ Communicate to your supervisor the status of your workload as well as any data quality issues.
+ Assist your supervisor in determining sources of problems and implementing corrective actions to resolve those issues.
+ Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS:
+ At least 4 years of experience operating GC/MS instrumentation common to an environmental laboratory.
+ Working knowledge and ability to quantitate parameters common to EPA Method 624 and SW-846 Method 8260.
+ Familiarity with producing and reviewing Level IV QC data.
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Access.
+ Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
+ Self-directed, goal and outcome oriented.
+ B.S. or B.A. degree in Chemistry.
