Job Description

Keypath Education is seeking a Copy Editor to work with our Instructional Services and Marketing teams. This role will be based in Schaumburg, Il and will report to our Content Quality Manager. The Keypath Education Copy Editor will be responsible for the quality, accuracy, and consistency of the marketing collateral and online courses Keypath produces with our university partners.

NOTE: This position sits in Schaumburg, IL headquarters

+ Work with Keypath’s Instructional Services department to offer the following services:

+ Edit online course materials for quality, consistency, accuracy, conformity to standards, and effective use of language

+ Copyedit and proof a variety of on-screen content, checking for and correcting errors in grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation, as well as technical consistency in capitalization, font usage, numerals, and hyphenation

+ Correct content using basic HTML and WYSIWYG editors within Learning Management Systems

+ Check consistency and clarity of instructions, due dates, assignment requirements, etc.

+ Revise content for accuracy, consistency, style, clarity, and academic-level appropriateness

+ Ensure content meets specified editorial standards, citation requirements, and quality assurance guidelines

+ Check for continuity errors and factual accuracy, as appropriate (specific content knowledge is not required, but the copy editor will be responsible for verifying the spelling of names, concepts, etc.)

+ Flag glaring copyright issues, as appropriate (please note, partner universities are responsible for copyright and permissions, but Keypath assists by pointing out obvious or egregious violations of copyright)

+ Review courses for style and formatting consistency; test both in desktop and mobile formats

Although these responsibilities are not primary, the copy editor may need to assist with the following tasks as needed:

+ Check technical settings against program standards and checklists

+ Test linked content and interactives for functionality

+ Run accessibility checks

Work with Keypath’s Marketing Department to offer the following services:

+ Copyedit and proof a variety of print and digital content, checking for and correcting errors in grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation, as well as technical consistency in capitalization, font usage, numerals, and hyphenation

+ Ensure content meets specified editorial standards, citation requirements, and quality assurance guidelines

+ Conduct brand reviews

+ Edit launch items, blogs, and social media campaigns

+ Proof marketing content design, including:

+ reviewing finalized brochures/collateral, new sites, and email templates for broken hyperlinks, missing images, sentence errors, paragraphing problems, and general formatting issues

+ reviewing videos and captions for spelling errors

+ auditing Keypath’s profile descriptions on social sites for spelling errors and misinformation

The ideal candidate:

+ has excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

+ has experience and is comfortable working with a range of academic content

+ is familiar with digital marketing collateral and social media

+ has excellent communication skills and is a natural collaborator

+ is able to learn quickly and master new technologies and processes

+ positively receives and implements constructive feedback

+ collaborates effectively with peers


Bachelor’s degree in communications, writing, technical writing, marketing, English, instructional design, teaching, linguistics, educational technology, curriculum design, or related field (Master’s degree, preferred)



+ Experience proofing digital content

+ Proven editorial and proofing skills


+ Copyedit certification or equivalent experience of 1-3 years in an editorial capacity

+ Experience using project tracking/project management tools, such as Jira and Workfront, etc.

+ Experience with Learning Management Systems

+ Working knowledge of HTML

+ Experience in higher education, educational publishing, and/or marketing

Technical skills:

+ Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud

+ (preferred) Working knowledge of HTML, Learning Management Systems (such as Canvas, Moodle, and Blackboard), and Drupal

+ (preferred) Some experience with assistive technologies, such as NVDA and JAWS
