Illinois State University’s Milner Library is seeking a tenure-track Applied Sciences Librarian. Reporting to the Head of the Science, Health Science, and Technology Subject Group in the Public Services unit, the Applied Sciences Librarian will serve as subject librarian to selected departments and/or schools in the College of Applied Science and Technology. This work includes the following duties and responsibilities in assigned subject areas: act as the primary contact to the library for administrators, faculty, students, and staff; proactively communicate about library matters, resources, services, etc.; cultivate a relationship with the chairs, directors and/or faculty library liaisons; oversee all aspects of collection development and maintenance, including purchases, weeding, and budgetary management; plan, develop, conduct, teach, and assess library instruction sessions; collaboratively develop and/or assess disciplinary-integrated information fluency outcomes; develop and maintain LibGuides and handouts; provide general and in-depth reference service at reference desk(s); provide in-depth reference by appointment, drop-in and in the stacks, and through e-mail and chat; participate in evening/weekend reference desk rotation; and assist library colleagues with integrating scholarly communication initiatives and teaching with primary sources from Special Collections and University Archives into liaison activities.
This is a tenure-track faculty position. Milner Library faculty members have responsibilities in the areas of librarianship, scholarly and creative activities, and service as outlined in Illinois State University Faculty Appointment, Salary, Promotion and Tenure Policies (https://provost.illinoisstate.edu/resources/tenure-promo/) and Milner Library’s Department and College Faculty Status Committees’ Criteria for Evaluation, Promotion, and Tenure. Faculty members are supported through the efforts of Milner Library’s Faculty Research and Development Committee, receive professional development and travel support, and are eligible for university grants to support scholarly and creative activities.

Milner Library supports Illinois State’s academic programs with a service-focused staff of about 75, an institutional budget of approximately $9 million and a collection of over 1.4 million volumes, 200,000 e-books, over 100,000 electronic journals and a number of digital collections. Milner Library also houses the University Archives, and its Special Collections hosts the Circus & Allied Arts collection, one of the best of its kind in the world. It is a member of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois whose I-Share integrated library system offers resource sharing across 91 member institutions with 14.7 million unique bibliographic records and 38.1 million items records. Milner Library’s annual gate count exceeds 650,000, and it is a clearly beloved destination on campus. The Library is currently undergoing renovation to house the Student Success Center, with master planning completed for additional renovations. Milner Library easily exceeded its half million dollar goal in Redbirds Rising, the current comprehensive campaign at Illinois State.

This is a 12 month position. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. 24 vacation days and 11 paid holidays per year.
