Job Summary

Provides leadership, direction, coaching and performance feedback to a team responsible for all estimating services including, new format cost development, estimating process and template creation and management, change management and implementation strategy planning, and cost / scope feedback loop throughout the construction process.

Job Responsibilities

+ Is the subject matter expert and manages team responsible for the production of accurate construction capital estimates for a broad scope of projects. The total estimates for projects typically exceeds $2 billion annually.

+ Creates and leads new format cost development. Integrates the needs of associated stakeholders and provide cost advisement solutions to drive sales and reduce total cost of ownership. Is accountable to all stakeholders to convey and update solutions regularly.

+ Creates new and existing estimating processes and templates to provide accurate and timely cost information to multiple stakeholders. Provides key analysis of risk potential and impact to financial return. Develops and is accountable for a database of typical project element costs and times on a regional basis and utilizes the results to build benchmarks and element estimates from which master elements are derived.

+ Is the subject matter expert providing solutions / decisions for the implementation of new format or strategic decisions to advise potential inclusions of scope to all new and existing projects.

+ Creates trend models for stakeholders to view total cost of ownership in multiple project types.

+ Provides guidance, and leadership to subordinates and matrixed support team members to effect the timely analysis of capital cost allocation.

+ Provides value engineering solutions as part of continuous feedback loop of project cost, schedule, quality, and customer service impacts of projects.

+ Reviews accuracy of cost estimates to rollout opportunities based on processes and templates created. Revisits and implements lessons learned to new strategic changes.

+ Assists in the development of the long-range financial plans and continuously analyzes operating financial results. Works closely with other departments within Walgreens to ensure that strategic initiatives are achieved.

External Basic Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5 years of experience in commercial construction estimating OR a High School diploma/GED and at least 8 years of experience in commercial construction estimating.

+ At least 2 years of experience in construction and engineering practices including budgeting, estimating, project scheduling/milestone creation.

+ Experience with architectural plan designs and site development plans, such as cost and quality control practices, material/equipment installation, bidding practices, material and labor costs, and building construction code requirements.

+ Experience collaborating and functioning within cross-functional teams in a matrix organization.

+ Experience collaborating with internal and external resources to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and established timelines.

+ Experience presenting to and coordinating senior level meetings, including preparation of agendas, documenting meeting minutes, sending out documents to attendees.

+ Experience with analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.

+ Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using AVERAGE function, merging and centering cells, printing centered page and/or creating a pivot table).

+ Advanced level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: changing picture styles, customizing animation and/or setting automatic slide timings).

+ Advanced level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: adding developer tab, creating a macro, formatting table style, inserting comments and/or creating a mail merge).

+ At least 2 years of experience managing teams in a matrixed environment, managing external resources, and/or developing, motivating, and directing people as they work.

+ Willing to travel up to 25% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture.

+ Experience with project values in excess of $ 5Million, and multi-project rollouts.

+ Experience in construction project management.

+ At least 1 year of experience of cross functional team leadership.
