ABOUT THE UNIT
The University of Chicago is one of the nation s leading institutions of higher education and research. Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) is part of the division of Campus and Student Life and serves the student body by providing primary care, wellness, and counseling and psychiatric services in support of achieving holistic care of the student. In 2020, the Student Health and Counseling Services will be moving into a new Wellness Center focused on providing integrated, seamless care.
Healthcare & Medical Services
Responsible for patient care for members of the University community. Provides services relating to health training, athletic health, behavioral health, and rehabilitation across the University. Assists individuals coping with personal issues, disabilities, and life-threatening diseases.
CAREER TRACK AND JOB LEVEL
Takes a comprehensive medical history from patients and performs physical exams and assesses patients’ vital signs. Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests. Performs basic and minor surgical procedures. Provides physicians with assistance during surgery or complicated medical procedures.
T1: Entry-level position with appropriate licenses/training certifications. Has basic skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process. Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines. Work is completed with close supervision.
The job provides basic technical Patient Care support under close supervision. Assesses patient’s vital signs. Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests.
1) Assists in performing a range of patient care processes and procedures, such as preparing patients’ charts, measuring and recording patient vital signs, and assisting patients on/off stretchers, wheelchairs, and/or exam tables., 2) Uses considerable on-the-job training to complete a variety of typical medical assignments-such as scheduling tests, procedures and referrals, and expediting medical results, notes, or letters., 3) Assists clinical providers with reading lab results. Enters lab orders into database
