The Department of Pediatrics of the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) seeks Cardiology candidates for multiple positions. The candidate must hold an MD/DO degree, be BC/BE in in pediatric or adult cardiology and BC/BE in Adult Congenital Cardiology and will hold or are eligible for an Illinois physician license. This is a faculty position, as such requires providing clinical care, teaching medical students and residents, research and scholarly activities. We offer the medical sophistication of a major referral center and cultural diversity in a family oriented community without big city hassles or cost of living.

The candidate will join a well-established team of 10 pediatric cardiologists with 30 plus years of success in the region. Professional efforts will be bolstered by the support of two board certified pediatric and congenital cardiovascular surgeons and a fully staffed cardiac intensive care unit with cardiac intensivists. Preferred candidates should be a board certified ACH cardiologist. The comprehensive ACHD program cares for ACHD patients in clinic and Adult & Pediatric hospitals. Our ACHD program is currently the largest program in the state of Illinois by clinic volume. Scholarly and research interests are highly desirable, along with experience in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. UICOMP supports a thriving education program with approximately 32 pediatric residents and 32 combined medicine-pediatrics residents.

Clinical activities will include in-patient rotations and general cardiology clinic coverage and travel to outreach clinics located in surrounding community cities. Clinical activities of the faculty are primarily concentrated at OSF Healthcare Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI), which is the primary pediatric teaching facility for UICOMP and is a 136-bed facility that offers over 50 pediatric programs and services. These programs represent over 100 pediatric sub-specialists in 24 different disciplines, including the largest pediatric surgery program in Illinois. Children’s Hospital of Illinois is the only full service tertiary hospital for children and adults with congenital heart disease in downstate Illinois. It is a designated Level I Trauma Center, and a Pediatric Critical Care Center, as well as having a Regional Perinatal Center and a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit.

Duties:

Responsibilities – Cardiologist

  • Proven acute and ongoing consultative care to ACHD patients in clinic and Adult & Pediatric hospitals.
  • Participate in teaching medical students, residents and other health professionals.
  • Develop, conduct and obtain funding for clinical and/or basic research in the field of Pediatric Cardiology.
  • Perform other duties of a University faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development, student counseling and administration.

Qualifications:

  • MD/DO degree
  • Eligible for licensure in Illinois.
  • Board certified/eligible in Pediatric or Adult Cardiology and board certified/eligible in Adult Congenital Cardiology
