Job Description


Provides a positive first impression to customer callers and matches requests with available staff and/or services by developing and maintaining knowledge of the full range of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center faculty, staff and services offered. Answers high volume of patient calls from inpatient floors, paging patient caregivers through the ProNet Nurse Call, a life safety system. Responds to other life safety systems including, using the public address system to announce overhead, emergency phone lines and page codes to appropriate medical center personnel. Additional Life Safety duties include the monitoring of fire and oxygen alarm panels, notifying security and 9-1-1 emergency dispatchers as necessary. Responsible for answering, relaying, paging and conferencing local and regional physicians through the PALS service.



High school diploma or equivalent required.

Ability to read, write and communicate in order to maintain accurate records and logs of calls made, patient admissions and transfers.

Approximately 18 to 24 months on the job experience or equivalent experience necessary in order to learn to operate the multiple operating systems and identify key Medical Center physicians/personnel.

Computer knowledge, i.e. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Smart Web, Outlook, etc.

Must be able to type 30 35 wpm.
