Job Description

Receives all incoming and outgoing calls to the hospital switchboard. Announces codes and maintains the Doctors Emergency Exchanged Service. Monitors alarms and responds according to direction, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate Department. Promotes excellent customer service in harmony with the mission of St. Mary’s Good Samaritan, Inc. Receives all calls from employees who are calling off work and manages the overtime rotation to fill the position. Maintains on-call schedules and keeps Switchboard manuals updated and current.
Principal Duties, Responsibilities and/or Essential Functions:
Processes all switchboard calls in a professional, compassionate and expedient manner.
Responds to emergency alarms and codes within five seconds and notifies proper personnel according to policy. Reports any malfunctions to the designated department.
Maintains accurate logs of calls, codes, and beeps; providing detailed information as required. Maintains current key personnel lists readily accessible for rapid notification.
Maintains Doctors Exchange, physician on-call, and sign-out information, knowing who to contact in any given circumstance.
Maintains daily census report, printing updated census at 7 a.m., 3 p.m., and midnight; serves as a backup to the Bed Board Supervisor.
Distributes beeps and overhead paging upon request and monitors Notes Pager Pro to assure key personnel are contacted as needed. Contacts Manager and Information Services when paging system is down.
Monitors reports and accurately performs tasks as assigned by Managers such as: Weekly PAT report; Notice of Privacy; Point of Service; Patient Change Forms; Admission Reservation Forms; etc.
Receives calls from employees who are not going to be able to work their shift, contacts and assigns a replacement staff member by using the overtime rotation list, and emails Manager and Coordinator of changes.
Advises Manager/Director of any problem areas, delays or other information integral to optimal performance in a timely manner.
