Job Description
Music therapists assess emotional well-being, physical health, social functioning, communication abilities and cognitive skills through musical responses. He/she may design music sessions for individuals and groups based on client needs using music improvisation, receptive music listening, song writing, lyric discussion, music and imagery, music performance, and learning through music.

Principal Duties, Responsibilities and/or Essential Functions:
Assesses the patient and designs/creates appropriate music therapy sessions to meet the needs of every individual patient seen
Completes assigned visits made by referral from of the Palliative Care team and communicates which visits cannot be completed with brief explanation. Demonstrates flexibility and ability to prioritize delivery of music therapy services.
Accurately completes clinical documentation in each patients electronic record immediately following therapy sessions and coordinates with the palliative care team for continuity of care.
Analyzes the patient needs, formulates music therapy care plans and assess/evaluates therapeutic/ interactive interventions
Accurately identifies and provides music indigenous to a variety of cultures
Creates innovative ways to conduct successful music therapy sessions
Participates in Palliative Care huddles and provides thoughtful assessments.
Encourages patients and families to provide feedback through survey’s and comments to ensure patient expectations are exceeded.
