Principal Gas Storage Engineer / Manager
Provide expert reservoir and integrity engineering services to our natural gas utility underground storage operations in multiple states. Support long-term capital planning for underground storage assets. Conduct analyses to maintain integrity, reliability and performance. Work in partnership with state operations to ensure safe, reliable service to customers. Perform highly complex system analyses and oversees implementation of actions and measures. Independently leads integrity related projects and teams. Responsible for maintaining all Integrity related oversight of 11 storage fields while maintaining compliance with pipeline safety regulations, industry standards and general engineering practices. Work with cross functional departments to develop and promote commercial opportunities for the assets. Maintain and produce records to verify inventory verification reports comparing gas-in-place to book volumes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
+ Develop and maintain Risk Management Plans for all of our gas storage assets.
+ Lead the design, construction, and standardization of subsurface and aboveground facilities vital to the storage assets.
+ Model, analyze, estimate, and recommend projects for the continued safe operation and reliability of the assets.
+ Design, utilize, and maintain analytical models for the commercial optimization of facilities and project development.
+ Conduct reservoir and well analyses of storage assets to predict, monitor, and manage storage field performance.
+ Participate as a technical expert in discussions, analyses, and development of commercial opportunities with cross functional departments.
+ Provide engineering support in the development of long-term capital planning.
+ Monitor new technological and regulatory developments that may affect Southern Company Gas.
+ Identify, lead, and provide innovative solutions to process improvement initiatives.
+ Work with internal customers to ensure project adherence to applicable codes and regulations.
+ Maintain a safe work environment. Show leadership in demonstrating Southern Company Gas’s safety policies, procedures and stop work authority.
+ Organize, plan, lead, and actively contribute to change management initiatives
+ Acts as a mentor in areas of expertise.
+ Proficient knowledge of 49 CFR Part 192, API RP 1171 and API RP 1170.
+ Provides direct supervision of an Integrity Engineer
+ Supports the hiring and managing of department interns
+ Participate in and lead state and federal audits
+ Travel as necessary to support activities for Gas Storage Operations.
+ All other duties as assigned
+ Maintain positive partnerships with state and federal pipeline safety commissions
+ Partner and maintain positive relationships with industry peers
+ Partner with operations managers, supervisors, and technicians. Contact with vendors, suppliers, industry associations.
+ Maintain positive working relationships and proactively communicate with internal and external customers.
+ Inspire confidence in others through effecting mentoring/training.
+ 10 or more years of gas industry experience; with proven knowledge of natural gas operations.
+ 7 years of experience as a practicing reservoir engineer.
+ Mastery of reservoir engineering analysis.
+ Proven technical expertise in a related discipline.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution required
+ Degree in geotechnical field (Petroleum, Geological) preferred.
+ Demonstrated technical and operational expertise.
+ Extensive knowledge of network design, standards, and system operations.
+ Understand and apply advanced concepts of related engineering disciplines
+ Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
+ Effective presentation, facilitation and training skills.
+ Strong writing and editing skills.
+ Proficient in word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs.
+ Ability to lead and participate with cross-functional teams.
+ Ability to manage projects of varying scale simultaneously.
+ Ability to thoroughly document analytical work.
+ Team player and demonstrated ability to effectively lead in such an environment.
+ Self-starter, energetic, and proactive.
+ Ability to acquire a Well Control Certification
+ Requires some travel within the utility service territory and for support of corporate subsidiaries.
