The City of Naperville’s Electric Utility now seeks an Electrical Engineer to design electrical distribution systems and work with developers, contractors, other utility & City staff, and outside agencies to facilitate electric system installation and maintenance. You will need to recognize and communicate how electric design will impact projects overall, and recommend & incorporate design adjustments.
Specifically, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for plan reviews for the construction of commercial and/or residential projects, roadway improvements, other utility installations, electrical duct bank installations, or street lighting projects. The Engineer performs electrical design to serve both immediate and future customers; prepares work orders and cost estimates for utility construction projects; and provides professional engineering consultation on construction in progress.
As the Electrical Engineer, you will perform engineering calculations; report on project status; develop manuals and specifications; schedule, attend and lead various project concept, pre-construction, & coordination meetings; prepare and evaluate bidding documents, department standards, and/or specs; prepare/maintain planning drawings & documentation, draw plans when required, interpret easement requirements and provide drafters with design requirements and direct or review their work as needed.
You will verify construction in progress in the field, and instruct contractors & developers in Naperville electric utility requirements; coordinate activities of contractors in construction of distribution systems as required, and review & inspect their work. Evaluate new equipment and methods. Review changes to electrical system master maps.
The Electrical Engineer maintains the computerized model of the distribution system, and performs protective device coordination, facility planning, load flow analysis and other computerized modeling.
