The City of Naperville’s Department of Public Utilities – Electric seeks an organized, motivated, and interactive Electric Utility Supervisor for its Operations Division. Major duties include the scheduling, coordination, oversight and evaluation of electric utility crews (Crew Leaders, Service Truck Operators & Linemen, etc.) and contractors. The Supervisor is responsible for reviewing, monitoring and assigning work in accordance with work orders and service requests. This position directly supervises up to 20 employees and contract personnel.

Naperville is the 5th largest City in Illinois. The city-owned electric utility maintains 16 substations and 1000 miles of transmission and distribution lines (of which 90% are underground), and has a 400 MW peak demand / 1,500,000 MWH annually. Several years ago, Naperville modernized its electric grid via the installation of 57,000 smart-meters and a wireless and fiber-optic backbone.
Reporting to the Utility Operations Manager, the Electric Utility Supervisor schedules and coordinates the work of distribution and substation linemen and service truck crews performing electrical utility installation, repair & maintenance. The Supervisor additionally coordinates contractors that the utility has hired. He/she reviews workloads and prioritizes jobs; communicates and coordinates electrical work with customers, other utilities, departments, and external agencies and contractors; schedules & attends pre-construction, coordination & concept design meetings; and prepares correspondence & documentation to/for customers, contractors, developers and other City departments.

The Supervisor also inspects job sites to oversee & evaluate a project’s development and the work of our crews & trucks; oversees the preparation & maintenance of work records and prepares a variety of operational reports; prepares & evaluates bidding documents & specifications; works with the Operations Manager to develop/implement unit goals, strategies & procedures; utilizes technology and automation to implement or administer programs and projects; coaches and mentors staff; administers disciplinary measures as appropriate; oversees the updating and correction of GIS & map data; meets with citizens, community reps and/or developers to review proposed or on-going projects; and addresses customer service complaints, answers questions and provides information to the public.
