The School of Cinematic Arts at DePaul University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Film and Television Production in one of the most innovative and fastest-growing film schools in the country. The School of Cinematic Arts offers a BA and BFA in Film and Television and MFA degrees in Film and Television Animation, Directing, Documentary, Cinematography, Creative Producing, and Screenwriting, an MA in Animation, and an MS in Film and Television Cinematography, Post-Production and Sound.

DePaul University is located in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant Loop and Lincoln Park communities, and the Film and Television Program is part of the School of Cinematic Arts (SCA). In 2018, SCA was ranked 13th in Hollywood Reporter’s annual list of the top film schools in the country the highest ranked program in the Midwest Region and named by Variety as one of the top film schools in the world.

In SCA, there are currently over 1,000 majors enrolled in the BA, BFA, BS, MS and MFA degree programs. SCA production facilities boast 35,000 square feet of production space at Cinespace Chicago Studios which include: two green screen stages, a motion capture studio, an AR and VR lab, two sound studios, one television studio, one 4K digital cinema theatre, a lighting and two full sound stages. Additionally, SCA has three equipment centers with industry-standard camera packages, stage lighting, rigging and grip equipment, and a 3 ton grip truck.

Past visiting artists include: filmmaker Werner Herzog; directors Lana and Lily Wachowski, Colin Trevorrow, Marc Webb, Tom DeCillo, and John McNaughton; producers Paula Wagner, Christine Vachon, and Jill Leiderman; former Disney executive Chuck Viane; actors Tim Robbins, Rainn Wilson, Stephen Merchant; and many more.

Ideal candidates for the position will have a combination of teaching and industry experience. As part of the University’s Mission and long-standing commitment to the education of first-generation college students, especially those from diverse cultural and ethnic groups, we are actively seeking candidates that enhance the experience of traditionally underrepresented populations and cultivate a more inclusive climate for our students, staff, faculty, and the broader community.

The responsibilities of this position will require teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in directing and/or production for film and television. All tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain a scholarly profile that aligns with the expectations of tenure and promotion and participate in service within and beyond campus including: attendance at program and departmental meetings, active participation in recruitment efforts, advising students, participation in departmental, college, and university committees, and professional stewardship in the field.

Position begins fall of 2020. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
1. MFA degree and at least five years of professional experience directing film and/or television.

2. Teaching experience in production or directing in film and/or television.
