The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, Department of Surgery, is hiring for multiple Board Certified/Board Eligible General Surgeon positions with an interest in Surgical Critical Care. Candidates will be eligible for rank of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor based on their current status and rank with responsibilities that include assisting in the growth of clinical excellence that can support the academic programs. New graduates and practicing surgeons will be considered.

This individual will provide patient care in their field of expertise. Additional responsibilities include providing education and mentorship to medical students and residents and development of clinical and/or research studies in association with other attending physicians, residents, and medical students.

Candidates must hold or be eligible for Illinois medical license and must be board certified in general surgery. Strong teaching abilities and interpersonal skills are essential.

Duties:

Serve as part of the General Surgery Service.
Implement research and clinical programs in area of specialty.
Provide clinical coverage with surgical section.
Perform surgery and patient follow-up.
Provide education and mentorship to medical students and residents.
Develop clinical and/or research studies in association with other attendings, residents, and medical students.
Other duties as directed by the UICOM-P Chairman of Surgery.

Qualifications:

  • Eligible to obtain permanent Illinois medical license
  • Eligible for board certification in general surgery with an interest in Surgical Critical Care.
  • Eligible for faculty appointment at rank of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor

Other desired (but not required) qualifications include:

  • Experience in teaching surgery to medical students and residents.
  • Peer recognition in general surgery and participation in regional/national societies and editorial board appointment on specialty journals.
  • Experience in presentation/participation in national meetings on specialty topics.
  • Basic science or clinical care research skills.
