Job Description
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist Principal Duties, Responsibilities and/or Essential Functions

Accurately assembles/prepares medications for inpatient and outpatient use. Ensures that all doses are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing/delivery to nursing units. Accurately and efficiently prepares IV medications including parenteral nutrition and chemotherapy.
Prepares and Delivers medications timely according to schedule.
Replenishes crash carts, medication kits, surgical trays and stock requisitions accurately.
Enters patient charges into pharmacy computer system accurately and in a timely manner.
Maintains Adequate/Appropriate Stock of Medications. Assists purchasing tech by writing down and ordering medications appropriately. Repackages tablets and liquids into unit dose form when needed. Rotates stock both in the pharmacy and in Pyxis. Restocks medication and IV dispensing areas when needed. Is not wasteful of supplies.
Regularly answers the phone in a prompt and courteous manner. Helps the caller when ever possible. Takes accurate written messages and relays them to the pharmacist when needed.
Can prioritize work to meet the needs of the patients. Works independently and without prompting, but understands the limits of technician practice and requests a pharmacist’s assistance when needed or required by law.
Adapts to changes in the daily work schedule when prompted to do so by the pharmacist. Follows the direction of the pharmacist when needed.
Helps maintain stock by performing duties related to out date tracking and removal appropriately. Completes assigned areas and documents in a timely manner.
Handles controlled substances in a manner that ensures accountability and security. Resolves all narcotic discrepancies as per policy.
