Description:

The Mechanical Engineering Department (MIE) at the University of Illinois-Chicago is seeking applications for one highly motivated PhD student and one Post-Doc to conduct research in the area of complex fluid mechanics and fluid dynamics.

Duties:

The PhD position will start either in Spring 2019 or Fall 2020. The Post-Doc position is available immediately.

Applicants are expected to have a strong background in Fluid mechanics and Fluid dynamics. Candidates with expertise on computational methods/CFD and/or hands-on experience in fluid mechanics and in technologies such as particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements are preferred. MATLAB and Machine shop experience are a plus. Excellent communication and written skills are required along with demonstrated success in previous academic research. The postdoctoral fellow must have a PhD in an engineering discipline, good mechanical design skills. Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to oversee undergraduate and master students, collaborate with the team members, write reports and publish peer-reviewed journal articles.

The appointment includes a stipend, full tuition, and benefits.
