The Position:

IBM Cloud Object Storage has an exciting new opportunity available for a senior technical support specialist who will be responsible for troubleshooting the most complex, urgent, visible and challenging problems within the IBM Public Cloud and on-premise IBM Cloud Object Storage systems, with emphasis on storage hardware and networks.

The Position: The Details

+ Coordinate and direct IBM support and development teams, hardware vendors, Datacenter and network operators, and customer liaisons to root cause the most critical issues in the largest and most complex customer accounts for IBM Cloud Object Storage in both on-premise and public cloud environments.

+ Identify and implement appropriate actions to restore operations on high visibility, large scale Cloud Object Storage deployments with specific focus on:

+ System level networking issues that cross numerous hardware and software domains.

+ Hardware faults (i.e. chassis enclosures, fans, CPU, memory, PSUs, firmware, BIOS, IPMI, networking interfaces, controller modules, OS and data drives, etc.)

+ Drive product improvement strategies based on customer experience and deep personal technical knowledge of how to operate and manage large scale complex distributed products and services.

+ Collaborate with the IBM Public Cloud operations and deployment teams to achieve optimal network resiliency and performance, through lessons learned from field reported problems and activities.

What You Need:

+ Minimum of 5 years’ (10 years preferred) experience in:

+ Linux OS operations, networking protocols and diagnostics, and POSIX file systems.

+ Troubleshooting storage hardware architectures from both the physical and software perspectives.

+ Networking certifications, such as CCIE, JNCSP-SP.

+ Demonstrated experience of working in a large-scale system environment and troubleshooting issues across system components.

+ Experience working with various storage hardware platforms, including HBA disk controllers, RAID controllers, SATA/SAS disk drives, SCSI architectures, and hardware management systems such as IPMI.

+ Knowledge of one or more of the following: SAN/storage, network management, telecommunications, security, operations and maintenance.

+ Strong oral and written communication skills that are clear, logical, structured, factual and compelling.

+ Demonstrated ability to effectively triage problems under pressure and identify risk-appropriate recovery and corrective action plans.

+ Ability and tenacity to solve increasingly complex technical issues through analysis and a variety of problem-solving techniques.

+ Works positively and effectively with team members and maintains flexibility to perform in a self-driven manner to meet business requirements.

+ Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or comparable experience.

Bonus Skills:

+ Object storage and cloud native application experience.

+ Linux Kernel development/debugging.

+ Experience with virtualization software, such as VMware.

+ Datacenter operations

+ Python, Perl, Unix/Linux shell scripting, or other scripting languages with demonstrable experience in applying these skills to data analysis and problem investigation.

+ Analysis tools including WireShark, Grafana, Nagios, Elastic stack, Kibana, and Splunk.

+ Experience with project management tools, such as Jira, Confluence.

+ Previous experience in customer support or development roles.
