Hours of employment: 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Part-time Bus Monitor supports the core operations of the Early Learning Centers in the areas of transportation. This position ensures that children are safely transported to and from the program and provides a pleasant and engaging bus environment. In addition, the Part-time Bus Monitor may assist classroom or kitchen staff as directed, including temporarily performing the duties of absent staff members.
This incumbent will be expected to promote and adhere to the workplace core capabilities of: accountability, customer focus, continuous quality improvement, communication, competent people and clear priorities. All work to be completed in accordance with organizational standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. The organization reserves the right to add to, delete, change or modify the essential duties and responsibilities at any time.
*Prioritizes and ensures the health, safety and well-being of children being transported to and from the program and on field trips in vehicles used by the program; visually observe the health of each child on the bus.
*Ensures that each child is delivered to the care of a responsible adult (authorized list) over the age of 18, upon leaving bus. Ensures that the responsible adult signs for the child upon leaving the bus.
*Completes daily sign on and off sheets, accounting by name all children getting on and off the bus.
*Assists children with entering and exiting the bus; ensures that children are properly positioned and restrained; and ensures harnesses are secured and remain fastened at all times while the vehicle is in motion.
*Creates an enjoyable and engaging environment on the bus, leading songs or other developmentally appropriate activities that are safe and appropriate for a moving vehicle.
*Maintains bus safety and positively guides children to follow all bus rules.
*Conducts a walk-through of the bus before and after each use, checking each seat and space beneath following the established “all clear” procedures for ensuring the bus is empty of children.
*In the event of an accident or emergency, ensures the safe evacuation of children and adult passengers.
*Reports any accidents, incidents or traffic violations incurred by the Bus Driver to the Site Director using the IAFC incident reporting process.
*Supports communication between families and center staff as requested.
*Remains with any children who are not received by an authorized adult and follows the agency transportation policy to notify appropriate contacts.
*Assists in maintaining the interior of the vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition.
*Ensures that no children are left unattended on the bus at any time.
*Facilitates bus evacuation drills.
*Other Functions: The organization may assign other functions to the job at its discretion including assisting in the kitchen and/or classroom.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform.
May be required to lift children up to 50 pounds. Will be required to lift packaged food and kitchen supplies on a regular basis.
