Argonne National Laboratory is looking for an Accountant II within the Financial Management and Procurement Services \(FMPS\) Division\.

The Accountant II performs a variety of accounting and reporting activities, all in accordance with Laboratory policies and procedures, Department of Energy guidelines, the Prime Contract, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Cost Accounting Standards, and applicable Federal and State regulations\. The Accountant provides support for the Senior Accountant and also assists the Senior Accountant in providing direction to the Accounting/Financial Assistant\(s\) and/or Clerk\(s\)\. The Accountant II interacts on a regular basis with Laboratory management and Divisional representatives, the Department of Energy, and outside vendors and agencies\. The Accountant is expected to handle special projects as they arise while also adhering to the specific deadlines of the position\. Supports department and OCF goals and objectives\.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

+ Thorough knowledge of financial policies including both accounting and budget issues\.
+ Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Cost Accounting Standards, Labor Laws and federal and state tax laws\.
+ Knowledge of automated financial systems in several platforms/environments including strong computer skills\.
+ Personal initiative, strong quantitative skills, and the ability to organize and support special projects\.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills\.
+ This level of knowledge and expertise is typically attained through a bachelor\`s degree in a technical, financial or business management field with an emphasis in technical analysis, and a minimum of 3 years of appropriate financial experience\.
+ A master\`s degree and/or CPA are preferred though directly related experience may substitute for academic work at the graduate level\.

The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level \(PA2 or PA3\) dependent upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills brought to the position, as well as the amount of relevant experience\. The requirements of the various levels are as follows:

+ At a PA2 Level: Bachelor’s and 2\+ years, some occupations may require graduate degree
+ At a PA3 Level: Bachelor’s and 4\+ years, some occupations may require graduate degree and 2\+ years
