Job Description

Position Summary

The Accounting Department is responsible for several key areas, including but not limited to, the general ledger application, financial reporting, investment portfolio management, detail financial recordkeeping, and supervision of operational functions including payroll, accounts payable, wire room and bookkeeping. Accountants have primary or secondary responsibility for the correct, efficient and timely management of a few to several key responsibilities of the Accounting Department. They may be in a learning mode, growing their experience and knowledge in several areas, or they could have a longer term concentration in which they provide the bank with particular expertise in one or two areas.

Essential Job Functions

  • Mentor or share knowledge within the department
  • Possess familiarity with the Core Processing System, and in particular, the General Ledger application

  • Possess familiarity with bank bookkeeping and operations practices
  • Possess familiarity with GAAP and banking industry accounting practices
  • Possess familiarity with bank regulations related to financial filing requirements
  • Possess expertise in income tax reporting, asset liability management, interest rate swaps, investments, capital markets and mergers and acquisitions
  • Possess high ethical standards
  • Manage multiple tasks, meeting deadlines and respond to pressure and change with poise and confidence

Computer Skill Requirements

  • Proficient in Jack Henry Silverlake
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three years’ experience in Financial Accounting
  • CPA, CMGA, CFA are beneficial

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly:  sitting, talking, hearing, vision – close, peripheral, depth, ability to adjust focus

  • Frequently:  reaching with arms and hands

  • Occasionally:  standing, walking, climbing and/or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, feeling/touching, lifting objects up to 30 pounds

Heartland Bank employees are required to have a valid Drivers License and carry standard auto insurance ($100,000/$300,000 or $300,000 combined single limit) in order to drive their personal vehicle or a fleet vehicle on bank business. If they do not meet the above criteria, they may not drive on bank business and will need to find alternate means of transportation.
