The Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks highly qualified candidates for an open rank (assistant, associate or full professor level) faculty position in areas applicable to Space Systems, including, but not limited to: autonomy and space robotics; mission design; human and robotic vehicle design; guidance, navigation and control (GNC); global navigation satellite systems (GNSS); astrodynamics; remote sensing; space manufacturing; propulsion; health and human performance; space biology; and other emerging space technology areas. Exceptional applicants in other areas relevant to Aerospace Engineering may also be considered. Senior and mid-career faculty are encouraged to apply, but all qualified candidates will be considered.

The Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has top-ranked graduate and undergraduate programs. The Department has several active CubeSat development programs underway for academic, commercial, and government customers. Newly constructed state-of-the-art department facilities include the Laboratory for Advanced Space Systems at Illinois and the Composites and Additive Manufacturing Laboratory.

Our faculty and students have access to world-class experimental and computational facilities located in on-campus multidisciplinary research centers, Aerodynamics Research Laboratory, the Coordinated Science Laboratory, the Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. Candidates interested in becoming affiliated with one or more of these research centers should indicate so in their cover letter.

A doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field is required at the start date, and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applications received after that date may be considered until the position is filled. A start date is expected in the fall of 2020; however, this is negotiable.
