Director of Strategic Planning- Consumer Insights/Shopper Marketing

The Director of Strategic Planning at EDGE, is to contribute at a senior level to the strategic planning partnership between internal client service and creative and assigned clients. The role of the Director, Strategic Planning, is to identify opportunities, help solidify objectives, apply analysis and develop insights for key businesses as assigned. They are also responsible for the supervision and professional development of strategic planning team associates. The goal of the Director is to build a strategic voice within the agency /client team through a higher level of strategic abilities.


+ Partner with Account Service and Creative Teams to identify client needs about competitive insights, syndicated/research data analysis, and custom client research to drive creative strategy development and client shopper communications.

+ Lead and author presentations, independently as well in collaboration, that demonstrate the ability to “connect the dots” of research, data, and information, yielding actionable conclusions that result in strategically sound marketing solutions/programs and breakthrough creative.

+ Interface with clients and client marketing research groups to promote and build deeper client partnership in order to and advance EDGE’s connectivity across client departments as well as to garner access to client specific resources and information for marketing use.

+ Provide supervision to the strategic planning staff at the Supervisor level and below.

+ Lead ongoing process improvements, including the identification of new resources and operational systems to best manage strategic planning, insight and data requests from clients.


+ Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or equivalent job-related experience required

+ 10+ years of experience in progressive brand marketing, promotion agency, shopper marketing or consumer marketing building strategy

+ Experience working within the adult beverage industry highly desirable

+ A clear understanding of and ownership of the creative development process

+ Adept at analyzing IRI, Nielsen, and other syndicated research data tools to translate Intel into actionable marketing plans

+ Previous direct client interaction and account management experience

+ Previous experience in managing and developing teams of 2+ associates

Position Summary

The Director of Planning is responsible for the coordination, management, oversight and evaluation of the organizations planning functions. As a member of the management team, the Director of Planning participates in team management, performance management, strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting initiatives and systems initiatives, in addition to problem solving and process development. Focus is on delivering measureable results within the organization that lead to outstanding program execution for our clients. Results will be attained through effective execution against planning and business performance goals.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

+ Workforce Planning: Formulate staffing strategies, and provide guidance and direction to SVP of Operations in determining staffing needs of operations support team and execution of strategy; Prepare and produce work volumes and staffing forecasts on regular intervals; Develop workforce planning and load balancing requirements.

+ Workforce Scheduling: Integrating staffing strategies with operational execution to provide the highest degrees of efficiency and impact; Determines allocation of resources against business priorities; Ensure staffing requirements are met.

+ Communications: Develops communication strategy and templates for communication flow, both internally and externally; Consult business leaders to collect and disperse information as the organization’s center point.

+ Permitting: Provide oversight and support for fulfilling all permitting requirements; Advise business leaders on any health, safety and civic permitting requirements as needed.

+ Optimization: Make adjustments and optimize service quality to maximize our one-to-one consumer interactions; Work closely with business leaders (i.e. Talent Acquisition, Field Execution, etc) to maximize processes; Identify and attend approved trade exhibits, shows and regular company field programs to develop and maintain knowledge base; Identify gaps and best practices in planning operations to improve overall performance.

Hires, retains, trains, coaches, guides, directs, and develops direct reports using company-wide processes, tools and resources

May delegate work of others and provide guidance, direction and mentoring to indirect reports

Travel and/or Driving Requirements

Travel is an essential duty and function of this job.

Travel up to 5-10 %


Education Level: (Required) Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

Field of Study/Area of Experience:

Business Administration or Operations Management preferred

- 5+ years of experience in management, leadership, and/or operations

- Experience working in a fast paced, dynamic business environment

- Experience managing a team of direct and indirect reports

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

+ Ability to visualize and plan objectives and goals strategically

+ Good interpersonal skills

+ Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle a fast-paced work environment

+ Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills

+ Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web-browsers

+ Ability to complete multiple duties with accuracy shifting from one to another with frequent interruptions and competing deadline

+ Team building Skills

+ Skill in supervising to include delegating responsibility, training and evaluating
