VCA Arboretum View Animal Hospital has an opportunity available for a patient care coordinator to join our fast-paced, AAHA-accredited, 24-hour emergency/specialty referral practice in Downers Grove, Illinois. The applicants must be motivated and dedicated workers with a strong work ethic, excellent client communication skills and well demonstrated professionalism. Applicants must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and demonstrate attention to detail while handling heavy caseload.

This unique position merges many of the responsibilities of a receptionist with those of a technician assistant. In this position, you will work hand in hand with our Internal Medicine department. Your responsibilities will include such tasks as client communication, record keeping, email and voice mail monitoring, patient status updates, and follow-up. The ideal candidate will have outstanding client service skills, be able to multi-task, work independently and have some veterinary experience.

The Internal Medicine position is full time; 4 days a week. Occasional holiday coverage for our ER service is required, generally two days per year.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Requirements:

+ Dependable attendance is required.

+ Telephone and computer skills are necessary.

+ Client communication and education – explaining disease processes and lab work results, administration of medications, follow-up care.

+ Assisting technicians in nursing care – oral medications and animal handling.

+ Efficiency – organize daily duties and procedures to best utilize staff’s time.

+ Flexibility – working to ensure that the job is done properly (willing to work beyond scheduled hours if necessary).

+ Medical records – charges, medical history, medications, laboratory reports, etc.

+ Assisting technicians in diagnostics – preparing samples and lab forms.

+ Pharmacy – familiarity with drugs, creating labels, filling and phoning in prescriptions.
