The Director of Underwriting is responsible for assisting in the development of pricing and underwriting policies and standards, including strategic oversight of underwriting function within a given unit.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

•Manages daily workflow within a unit and ensures timely release of work.

•Oversees issuance of standard financial arrangement contracts.

•Monitors competitors’ rates, benefits, and financial arrangements.

•Assists in the design, pricing and implementation of new products. Hires, trains, coaches, counsels and evaluates performance of direct reports.

•Oversee and manage to the P&L results for designated region/states

•Collaborate with the Specialty Sales/Account Management leadership & team to ensure membership and financial targets are achieved

•Represent the UW team on corporate projects and initiatives to ensure Underwriting requirements are identified and implemented


•Requires a BA/BS in a related field

•7 years of related underwriting experience including prior management experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

•Strong multitasking skills: Ability to manage multiple states/markets and projects that directly impact the Dental Underwriting

•CPCU, CLU, LOMA, HIAA or other insurance related courses preferred
