Responsible for overall laboratory operations in the Ringwood warehouse with attention to consistent implementation of policies, procedures and business practices for all employees, including our ISO Accreditation parameters; responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory and for the selection and establishment of appropriate test methodology; interact with clients and projects requiring multiple resources and effectively facilitate inter-company and interdepartmental initiatives and interactions to best meet the needs of the client and project; participate in large project proposals with attention to profitability and client satisfaction; participate in trade and professional associations to promote the company with the goal of increasing sales and promoting our business locally, regionally and nationwide; attend internal and external audits; foster smoothly running laboratory functions through timely and effective resolution of disruptions (i.e. equipment maintenance, purchases and laboratory supplies); ensure the attainment of company objectives through the selection, development, motivation and evaluation of lab staff; manage the laboratory operation relating to hiring, termination, and performance management issues; attend and run various daily, weekly and monthly meetings; evaluate new materials for efficiency in their fields; implement QC practices where beneficial to company goals; and oversee small scale blending and evaluation.
Requires a Master’s degree in Chemistry or related field and a minimum 2 years’ experience as a Chemist, Chemistry Technician, Research Assistant or closely related occupation. Also requires 2 years’ related lab experience in analytical chemistry instrumentation, method development, and operational knowledge of GC-MS, FTIR, UV-VIS, and LC-MS; experience with Organic Chemistry and relevant reactions, polymerization mechanisms, kinetics and thermodynamics; experience with Rheometric; experience with International Organization for Standardization (ISO); experience with Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s) and a HACCP plan (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) measurements; and experience working with LIMS.
