Position Introduction

Position Summary

The Dean is the front-line student success champion supporting students and faculty within an academic division. The Dean will assist with the leadership in the development and implementation of courses and programs of study designed to serve students and is responsible for aligning the division with the college-wide strategic plan.

Reports to
Vice President of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the leadership for planning, organizing, supporting, and implementing comprehensive programming within the division, as well as any new programs related to social sciences and public services added in the future
  • Lead, supervise, and evaluate all division employees, including full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff
  • Champion college and divisional initiatives
  • Assist with enrollment management for the college
  • Provide support for new divisional initiatives
  • Develop the annual divisional budget
  • Monitor the internal and external articulation of curriculum and service delivery
  • Act as the liaison with appropriate state committees and departments, other agencies, organizations and institutions relative to the division’s programs
  • Serve on various College committees and shared governance activities
  • Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
  • Support and participate in the College’s commitment to continuous improvement
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Required Education
Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution

Other Required Qualifications

  • Appropriate qualifications from a regionally accredited institution to teach in one of the division’s disciplines
  • Evidence of increasing levels of administrative responsibilities
  • Experience with employee evaluation
  • Two years of leadership experience either in directly managing employees or in a project management role

Desired Qualifications

  • Doctorate or other advanced degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Three years teaching experience
  • Three years community college instructional experience

  • Ability to organize work around broad organizational goals and processes
