Professional CAD Tutor
Part-time Support Staff
Varies between campuses

Waubonsee Community College is accepting applications for a part-time CAD Tutor.

Tutors are responsible for providing support with the mastery of concepts and applications of writing. They integrate effective study and learning strategies, thereby maximizing the students’ potential to become independent learners and achieve academic success during individual walk-in, appointment based, or group tutoring.

Reporting to the Academic Support Coordinator, Tutors provide subject matter expertise and serve as models for students in the techniques, strategies, attitudes, and beliefs of successful learners. Assistance might include reviewing class material, discussing text, reviewing test questions, generating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems.

This position requires a professional with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to effectively use technology to enhance tutoring sessions.

Successful Tutors employ a holistic approach to student success, bring passion and enthusiasm to the Tutoring Center, and are collaborative with students, faculty and colleagues. They work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities.

Responsibilities:

Facilitate individual and small group tutoring sessions.

Create a welcoming environment and assist faculty/staff, tutors and students.

Conduct classroom visits.

Be punctual, begin all sessions promptly, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the student’s needs.

Be courteous and helpful in all interactions including phone and online conversations.

Maintain a nice and clean appearance of workstation.

Maintain confidentiality with any shared information.

Complete and submit all required forms and trainings (e.g. time sheets and evaluations).

Adhere to all tutoring policies.

Assist the Academic Support Coordinator with various projects.

*Fall 2020 position- applicant must have experience with at least one of the following areas:

  • CAD*

Typical work hours would be flexible (various days).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in subject matter or related field. Master Degree preferred.
Previous teaching, tutoring, or delivering academic support at the high school or college level experience preferred.

Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people.
Appreciation for, and sensitivity to, cultural differences.
Demonstrate strong clerical and organizational skills.
Basic Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suites.

Prefered Qualifications (not required):
Basic Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (Blackboard)
