Performs echocardiograms and teaches and instructs technicians and physicians in interpreting and diagnosing echocardiograms. Also performs a variety of non-invasive tests that includes, but not limited to, stress tests, EKG’s, Signal Averaging, Holter Monitoring, Event Monitoring and Pacemaker clinic. Prepares test results including transcriptions, copying, filing, and performs other related duties as needed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
High School or Equivalent (GED)
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
1 to 3 years
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Registered or registry eligible as a Cardiac Sonographer required.
Demonstrated proficiency in arrhythmia recognition and EKG course.
Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire.
Completion of EKG recognition class.
Training as a Medical Assistant or LPN is desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
Demonstrated proficiency in performing Echocardiograms preferred.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology and clerical function related to scheduling, order entry, record keeping and interaction with patients.
Ability to read, write, hear, and speak the English language fluently.
Must be able to demonstrate competence with all associated equipment used.
Demonstrate knowledge in the anatomy and physiology of the heart.
Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual or dangerous situations, or situations in which work speed and sustained attention are a make or break aspect of the job.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Independently performs all aspects of echocardiogram testing and exercise echocardiography.
Positive communication skills, ability to successfully interact with all customers and staff, continuous demonstration of courteous, cooperative and service oriented manner.
Assist Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons with Transesophageal Echocardiograms.
Scheduling appointments, by phone or in person, for Cardiac Services; providing preparation instructions for testing, accesses, enters and retrieves information from MIS, MUSE and Agilient Enconcert System; ability to identify, correct, and report clerical errors and related problems, current and/or potential, provide assistance to resolve them and performance of admitting/ registration related tasks.
Receives and records verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners for orders that are specific to the services provided by their department.
Administers medications in a timely manner, safely and in accordance with policy and procedure.
