TITLE: Bus Driver
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to pass fingerprint criminal
Drivers must be 21 years old Drivers must hold an Illinois CDL Drivers License
Drivers must be able to understand the basic operational systems on varying models of school buses
Drivers must be able to operate within structured time parameters defined by school start and dismissal times
Must be able to understand basic map reading and have directional acuity
Must meet Illinois Revised Statutes, Ch. 95.5, paragraph 6-106 which specifies the requirements to become and remain a school bus driver in Illinois
Must pass a test covering knowledge of bus driving rules, regulations and laws
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
Provide safe and reliable transportation of students throughout the district and to other events as assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Listed below but not limited to:
Attends yearly 2-hour refresher course
Passes yearly physical examination and drug testing also participates in random drug testing program
Completes a daily pre-trip inspection report before the first trip of each day and anytime a different bus is driven
Notifies mechanics, in writing, of any mechanical problems with a bus, on a daily basis
Schedules preventative maintenance each 3,000 miles (oil change)
Keeps the bus clean both inside and out
Maintains adequate discipline to assure the safety of the passengers; reports gross disobedience or misconduct to the Director of Transportation using School Bus Incident Report
Notifies the Director of Transportation immediately if there is a breakdown or bus accident; follows all accident procedures
Maintains a route sheet and map and ensures their accuracy at all times
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year in accordance with recommendations established by the Superintendent of Schools and immediate supervisor
Mental Demands: interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, planning, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing, and concentrating.
Physical Demands: bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, standing for prolonged periods of time, walking, exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, manual dexterity to operate related equipment, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity, ability to read and write, ability to speak and understand the English language.
Environmental Conditions: The work is performed outdoors
The basis of the evaluation will be the extent to which the performance responsibilities of the job are successfully handled and the extent to which yearly action plans and job goals are met (as applicable).
