Duties: Develops and implements software for applications and related technology. Delivers code that meets specifications, creates little to no operational support overhead, and requires minimal support during development from Senior Engineers. Creates self-documenting designs and clearly communicates intent via comments in code, on specifications, in as-built documentation, and during code reviews. Writes unit and integration tests for each deliverable, and effectively and comprehensively exercises the code. Prevents the introduction of subsequent bugs and corrects existing bugs or design issues when discovered. Influences the discovery and decision-making process when changes to standards and technology are required (tools, conventions and design patterns). Serves as a team member in the design and new technology Proofs of Concept for applications for new technology. Leads code reviews to ensure functional performance specifications are met and engineering standards are followed. Leads the evolution of standards and technology (tools, conventions and design patterns). Leads and reviews the design of applications and new technology. Leads the analysis, design, and development of software with a small technical team. Mentors Engineers and Associate Engineers.
Education & Experience Requirements: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) plus 3 years of experience analyzing, designing, coding, testing, implementing and debugging large-scale mainframe applications for retail Point of Sales systems. Or, alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) and 5 years of experience analyzing, designing, coding, testing, implementing and debugging large-scale mainframe applications for retail Point-of-Sales systems.
Candidate must also possess the following: (1) Demonstrated Expertise (DE) analyzing and developing software applications and solutions using Mainframe Cobol, CICS, JCL/Procs, MAPS, APS and SQL to support large data volume processing; (2) DE supporting mainframe COBOL applications by creating QMF reports and researching data issues, and creating and executing QMF or SPUFI SQL queries; (3) DE developing and debugging mainframe based automation products and tools using FILEAID, REXX, SNDS/SNDM, SmartTest, ViaSoft, Quick jobs, OPC, and JCL; (4) DE in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) using Agile methodologies and JIRA; and, (5) DE performing mainframe testing and database testing on DB2, including designing and manipulating test data and validating stored procedures and triggers.
