OTTO’s opportunity:
Our Engineering Director Communications Division is responsible for directing all product design and development activities of the Communications Division and providing technical assistance to other organizations on issues related to product design or process.

Specifically, the Engineering Director Communications Division will:
• Lead a multi-discipline team of technical staff (ME, EE, SW), including direct managerial reports, design, and project management
• Provide leadership to the product design and development activities including milestone management, technical supervision, staffing, and career development
• Responsible for delivering new products on-time, to specification, within cost targets
• Establishes and manages the budget and operational objectives of the Engineering Department
• Development/recommendation regarding new technologies for development
• Working knowledge developing products for rugged extreme outdoor environments
• Provides technical guidance to engineering teams and technical assistance to other organizations of the Company as required
• Experience working directly with customers, making presentations, customer visits and representing the company at trade shows
• Knowledge of acoustics, tooling and tool design, printed circuit board layout, and engineering analysis tools
• Develops and maintains good relationships with internal and external stakeholders – Sales, Sourcing, Quality, Production, Suppliers, and Customers
• Implementing best practice engineering methods (DFMA as an example). Experience with designing products for lowest cost manufacturing
• Support established organizational objectives by developing goals and strategies
• Finding and implementing ways to improve cost-efficiency
• Must be flexible and adaptable to drop in sales requests to modifications on existing products and new products, pulling in the appropriate team members, with little to no disruption to ongoing projects
• Ability to manage the same resources working on multiple projects, keeping all the projects moving forward on schedule
• Knowledge of engineering tools used by ME, EE, and SW development
• Knowledge of ISO, Intrinsic Safety (IS), ATEX, UL, CE, EN standards, and other industry standards
• Experience with patents
• Must understand and utilize a phase gate system for product development
• Assist with other related duties as required or assigned
