Job Description




Sterling Steel Company, LLC, a subsidiary of Leggett & Platt, Incorporated is seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer to join its operation in Sterling, IL.  The Reliability Engineer will provide reliability centered maintenance and support systems for its melt shop and rod mill.  Key responsibilities for this position include:

Oversee internal resources in the continual development and implementation of IVARA for inspection and predictive maintenance

Manage equipment and facility drawings, spares, and documentation to support the reliability effort

Integration and improved utilization of the Companys CMMS

Application of Root Cause Failure Analysis followed by the appropriate solution application to eliminate recurring issues

Initiate action to prevent any nonconformity related to product, process, and system

Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process, and quality system

Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels

Verify the implementation of solutions

Control further processing, delivery, or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected


This position requires a four year college degree in Reliability or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent training and experience.  The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years in reliability and preventative maintenance or related field.  The successful candidate will also possess the following:

Excellent communication skills with the ability to implement programs throughout the workforce

Leadership skills in both a direct and advisory basis

Exemplary project management skills

Expertise in the implementation and use of CMMS systems

Comprehension of planning and scheduling practices

Proven track record as a facilitator for reliability centered maintenance

Understanding of failure modes and effects analysis

Keen ability to use root cause failure analysis, and recommend solutions

Working knowledge of Predictive/Preventive Maintenance practices including: vibration analysis, infrared thermography, laser alignment, and NDE
