SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
As part of the Molecular Development Department, the Software Developer II position is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of both internal and external software solutions as well as assisting with associated support, as necessary. Under direct supervision, research answers to technical questions, identify the causes of software defects, fix software defects, and develop new software features. Specializes in one or more areas of the software.
This position is staffed by intermediate developers who have had sufficient educational background and/or experience to meet position requirements.
Bug fixes: Identifies and fixes software defects.
Feature development: Develops new features with guidance and assistance from senior developers.
Mentor and assist junior developers as needed.
Support: Assist with support efforts related to bugs and features associated with above development.
Documentation: Writes internal documentation regarding feature functionality, troubleshooting, and standards. Writes fix notes, release notes, and test plans. Updates backlog items as necessary. Identify and document areas of improvement for existing software solutions. Recommend new technologies and tools to optimize department production.
Training: Learns about new areas of the software and keeps abreast of technical and laboratory industry news.
Communication: Regularly meet with management to discuss ongoing projects.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with a focus on programming/development or a combination of an Associate degree in programming/development plus additional experience.
Five years of professional experience in the role of programmer, software developer, or related.
Three years of professional experience implementing and supporting client-facing software applications.
Work independently and balance work across multiple projects and priorities with overlapping schedules.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate with individuals with all levels of technical and non-technical skill sets.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Must be detail oriented.
Experience with C#, .Net, Java, or PHP.
Experience with complex SQL queries and relational databases.
Experience developing and interfacing with web-based APIs.
Experience with HL7.
Experience with Visual Studio and Azure or AWS.
Experience administrating of Windows and Linux systems.
Knowledge of security algorithms.
Knowledge of networking protocols and appliances.
Knowledge of EHR, EMR, LIS, and LIMS software.
Knowledge of government regulations related to the Health Care Industry.
Knowledge of medical billing and coding.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
Majority of work is independent with some work in teams.
Flexible work hours with regularly scheduled meetings.
