We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position within the AMO Physics group in the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division.
In this role you will:
+ Study x-ray induced phenomena in molecules in gas phase targets, principally through electron spectroscopy.
+ Two main avenues of investigation include using and further developing a new Hard X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy rolling-endstation at the Advanced Photon Source (taking advantage of the high hard x-ray flux), as well as opportunities to perform x-ray pump/x-ray probe experiments in the soft x-ray regime at the LCLS with femtosecond to attosecond temporal resolution.
+ Provide instrumentation design, setup and testing, data acquisition and interpretation, development of data analysis routines, write journal publications.
+ Interact and perform collaborative research within the AMO group, including theory support, and with instrument scientists at the various light sources.
+ Remain knowledgeable of progress in relevant fields of research.
We expect you to have:
+ Considerable knowledge and experience in one of the following areas: electron spectroscopy, synchrotron or free-electron laser sources and associated instrumentation and methods; molecular or cluster-jet systems.
+ Considerable experience with development of data analysis routines.
+ Good skill in conceiving and implementing experimental methods, planning, and conducting experimental procedures, and analyzing and interpreting measurements.
+ Good ability to communicate scientific information orally and in written reports and publications.
+ Ability to work independently on a daily basis.
+ Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary research group.
+ Must possess a Ph.D. degree in physics, chemical physics, chemistry, or optics related disciplines and 0 to 1 year of experience/equivalent.
