Christie Clinic is seeking a PRN Medical Technologist or Lab Technician to work in our University Clinic Lab. Must be available Monday – Friday, and for a shift on Saturdays during the day.
MT or MLT (ASCP) is required. Stable work history and previous lab experience is preferred.
Work is performed in a laboratory environment with frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Requirements may include working irregular hours.
Perform chemical analysis of blood and other body fluids to determine chemical components.
Mount, stain and examine smears under microscope for bacteria.
Perform hematological examinations making complete blood counts. Examine smear of WBC differential.
Perform blood tests as ordered for patient care.
Perform a variety of bacteriological tests.
Perform quality control checks of instruments and solutions and test results against established standards.
Perform routine laboratory procedures such as preparing slides and culturing media.
Prepare reagents, stains and other chemical solutions.
Inventory supplies and clean equipment and work areas. Dispose of contaminated materials appropriately.
Log patient specimens and enter test results on worksheets.
Enter results into Laboratory computer.
Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
Perform Phlebotomy and EKG work as needed.
Prepare, follow, and maintain laboratory procedures.
Perform related work as required.
Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Visual acuity and normal color perception is mandatory. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment is required.
